Research is not confined to a particular specialism. In most instances, it is the interconnection of records that is crucial. Locating and understanding the sources and interpreting the information produces credible and robust research.
Research can be split between national and regional record collections and divided further between ecclesiastical districts, requiring the flexibility to visit different repositories. Based in Bath, Somerset, the archives of the South-West and London are easily accessible.
As the research progresses back before the nineteenth century, the ability to read wills, transcribe chancery depositions and interpret manorial records can be essential in breaking down brick walls.
Heraldry is not just the domain of the aristocracy. Published pedigrees can be invaluable when researching the gentry and yeoman classes of the sixteenth century through to the eighteenth century and beyond.
